As a fleet manager with higher idle percentages, if I set all my trucks to a 5-minute shutdown, will my idle problems be resolved?
Not exactly. In many operations, the vehicle is started and stopped many times per day, particularly in Direct Store Delivery (DSD) routes. If you have 15 stops in the day and rely on the vehicle to shut itself off after 5 minutes, that is 75 minutes per day at those stops alone. That habit over a week of deliveries would result in roughly 40% or more idle percentages.
Idle reductions come from driver training and accountability. The IST technology only protects from the extremes by shutting it off after the preset time limit.
