Who Can It Be Now?
Distracted driving is a critical safety focus for our industry. Many companies have no cell phone policies for their drivers. So, who continues to call our drivers?
A large private fleet recently had a confidential survey regarding the use of handheld cellphones while driving. The survey revealed that more than half the calls that came into a driver’s phone was initiated by a family member!
Think about that. The people who care most for a person are not only putting their loved one's safety at risk, but also possibly the livelihood and financial support for the family. Talk with your drivers about this. Inform them to speak with their families and set guidelines. They must inform their family members they are going to check messages and return urgent calls at each stop.
