Distracted driving is a critical safety focus for our industry. Many companies have no cell phone policies for their drivers. So, who keeps calling our drivers?

A:

A large private fleet recently had a confidential survey about the use of handheld cellphones while driving. The survey revealed that more than half the calls that came into a driver’s phone were initiated by family members!

Think about that. The people who care the most about a person are not only putting their loved one's safety at risk, but also possibly the livelihood and financial support for the family. Talk to your drivers about this. Let them know to talk to their families and set guidelines. They should inform their family members they will check messages and return urgent calls at each stop.
