Q:

Can you explain what PTO stands for? I see "PTO Hours" mentioned regularly in my ELEVATE® scorecard.

A:

"PTO" stands for Power Take-Off, which is a transmission function option on all Idealease vehicles. It transfers the power of the vehicle's engine to operate auxiliary components on the vehicle. Common examples of operating these auxiliary components are hydraulic pumps for dump bodies, wet kits, etc.

If you do not have a PTO function on the truck, this is a clear indicator that the operator of the vehicle is over-riding the Idle Shutdown Timer to intentionally keep the truck running for one reason or another. PTO idling is inefficient, and costly. It can causes more frequent regenerations, as well as unproductive fuel burn.
