How can my team prepare for the next winter storm?
During extreme weather, safety is of the utmost importance. We don't always know when a winter storm will hit and when it does we may only have a day of warning. Ensure your drivers are safe and prepared, and equipped with a safety kit. This kit should include items such as reflective triangles, a warm blanket, nonperishable food, and medical gear.
Other preventative measures your team can take:
- Use block heaters
- Ensure drivers are equipped with coats, hats and gloves
- Inform drivers to adequately heat the cabin
The ELEVATE® scorecard following an extreme weather event usually reflects lower performance metrics. We see an increase in idle and other idle related KPI’s, so we conclude from these finding that drivers keep trucks running to stay warm. The goal is to support the measures drivers are taking for safety reasons and focus on idle reduction when these weather conditions pass.
Preparation makes all the difference. Help your drivers remain safe on the road by preparing for the worse and hoping for the best.
