OPP (Other People’s Problems) and how they can impact your braking or cornering: even if we hire professional drivers, provide ongoing coaching, training, and reinforce our safety goals as a company, we must still recognize that we are not the only ones on the road.
As the holiday season approaches, beyond controlling your vehicle for optimum efficiency and safety, you’ll also need to be more conscious of your surroundings.
Here are a few reminders for your drivers:
- Traffic is heavier during average business hours by stressed or rushed drivers.
- Be especially concerned of cars entering and exiting the roadways, which causes many quick lane changes as people try to move from one strip mall to another.
- People text and use apps while behind the wheel over 30% more during the winter holidays compared to the average weekday.
- Be on the lookout for people on their phones who are not paying attention. You will have to pay extra attention to them to keep you safe on the road.
- Parking lots are particularly risky during the holidays as pedestrians, as well as drivers, are often distracted and rushed.
The message is clear. Keep a safe distance, watch your speed, and be aware of your surroundings. This will help eliminate evasive maneuvers that can result in accidents or incidents.
